“I’m going to book a trip to Germany for next month. That will inspire me to learn German.”How much usable German will you learn in one month? Even if you do learn some German and can speak a few conversational sentences, will you have really learned the language? or will you forget it very quickly? Isn’t it a better idea to start learning German, master the fundamental basics of the language and then build on your conversational skills? Don’t get me wrong, go to Germany! Explore the world! But don’t hold yourself to an impossible goal with a reward at the end that proves success or failure.

“We need to update our house. Lets take out all of the toilets and sinks at the same time, so we really focus on replacing everything quickly.” If you try to change everything so fast, what will you do? You depend on having those bathrooms in working order. Won’t that be overwhelming? Of course it will be! You would never do this.

“I spend my money too frivolously. I’m going to give away my entire paycheck since I don’t spend it right in the first place.”.  What in the world are you thinking!!? You can’t give your money away just because you have bad financial habits! This is pure insanity! You need that money! No person in their right mind would EVER make this decision. Right?

If this is all so ridiculous…why do we view weight loss and fitness with this much extremism? Have you ever wanted to lose a large amount of weight for a big night like a reunion? or a vacation? (Germany!)

Have you ever decided to drink lots of water, exercise for two hours every day, cut out all carbs, and only eat 1400 calories a day? (House destruction)

Have you ever said to yourself ” Forget it. I’m just not going to eat anymore!” (yeah….giving away your paycheck.)

Aren’t these ridiculous statements? Most people would never expect so much of themselves so quickly, or be so dramatic in their actions.
