What is the difference between a Goal and a Resolution?

A Resolution is a change, Goals are actions.

If you are making health and weight loss resolutions right now for the new year, you are not alone! Unfortunately most resolutions are forgotten about and in the “failure bin” by February. If you’re serious about those resolutions, there is something you can do to keep them and more importantly SUCCEED in them.

Be more specific in your Goal Setting. How you identify your resolution is very important. Most people who make New Years resolutions identify the result they want, without making a plan to get there.

“I want to lose weight”

“I want to be a smaller size”

“I’m going to eat better”

These common resolutions are the results of actions. Without an action plan, or some GOALS you’ll never get to the result. In honor of 2018 I’ve come up with 18 different actions you can take to help you to achieve the RESULT you’re looking for. You can choose to focus on one, or ALL of these daily actions. They are simple and effective, and combined they will help you get where you want in 2018.

18 Actions to Take:

  1. I will run a 5k (or other distance) on May 5 (or other date).
  2. I will log my food every day.
  3. I will get 10,000 steps every day.
  4. I will go to 3 Cycle classes per week.
  5. I will get 150 minutes of cardio exercise per week.
  6. I will eat a balanced Macro diet.
  7. I will only eat foods with added sugar on Saturday night.
  8. I will drink 96 oz of water every day.
  9. I will get 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
  10. I will practice stress reducing activity like meditation, massage, yoga and the like.
  11. I will add a vegetable to every meal.
  12. I will only eat carbohydrates that are fruits, vegetables, or whole grain.
  13. I will not Netflix binge for longer than X amount of time.
  14. I will park at the back of the parking lot.
  15. I will strength train 2 times per week.
  16. I will get an accountability buddy to hold me to my new habit changes.
  17. I will take the sweetener out of my coffee habit.
  18. I will join a local adult softball/volleyball/soccer league.

Be as specific as possible in your goal setting. It makes it easier to follow and succeed in! If you just make the “Lose Weight” resolution, you will end up feeling like a failure every time you skip a workout,  eat a piece of bread, or let life distract you. That kind of constant negativity will defeat you before you get to see any results.

2018 can be your healthiest year yet!
